BIO
Boundless passion, spontaneity, and the pursuit of emotional authenticity arising from the moment
- all these qualities define the Tovesco Trio.
Formed in 2021 in Hamburg, the trio quickly developed an intense musical partnership. Only a year and a half later, it could already celebrate its first international competition successes. It is the desire to convey a deeply personal approach to music that connects and unites the musicians of the Tovesco Trio. At the heart of their work lies both the composer’s intent and the ensemble’s quest for expressive and individual statement.
The ensemble came together in 2021 at Hamburg’s University of Music and Theatre and, just one and a half years later, won a main prize and two special prizes – including the audience prize – at the International Chamber Music Competition Pinerolo e Torino 2023. In February 2024, the trio received the Berenberg Bank Foundation Award, presented to them at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. Most recently, in September 2025, the trio was among the prizewinners at the Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus.
For the 2025/26 season, the ensemble was also awarded a project grant by the Deutsche Orchester Stiftung, which will enable them to realize, among other things, an educational project with schoolchildren at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. Cellist Tatu Kauppinen joined the trio in March 2025.
Individually, the musicians have received numerous awards, including prizes at the Turku Cello Competition in Finland, the Felix Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, and the Elise Meyer Competition in Hamburg. They have collaborated with renowned artists such as Tabea Zimmermann, Nils Mönkemeyer, Arie Vardi, and Jens Peter Maintz, and have performed in concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Gasteig Munich, and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
The trio receives regular artistic guidance from Dirk Mommertz and Oliver Wille, and has participated in masterclasses with Eberhard Feltz, Thomas Hoppe, and members of the Vogler Quartet.
The Tovesco Trio holds a scholarship from the Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus, and is supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben as well as the #MusikerZukunft Scholarship Program of the Deutsche Orchester Stiftung.

International Chamber Music Campus Weikersheim
SEPTEMBER / 2025
As part of the International Chamber Music Campus of Jeunesses Musicales, we spent twelve intensive days in September at the Music Academy in Weikersheim. Daily
inspiration from musicians such as Dirk Mommertz, Heime Müller, and members of the Vogler Quartet, the beautiful surroundings and tranquility, as well as meeting other wonderful young chamber music groups, made our stay a truly enriching experience.
After the final concert, a lovely surprise was waiting for us – we were selected as one of only a few ensembles to receive an ICMC award and have been invited to make our debut at the Hohenloher Kultursommer next July!

Scolarship from the "Deutschen Orchester stiftung"
OCTOBER / 2025
We are incredibly happy and grateful to be supported in the 2025/26 season by the #MusikerZukunft scholarship program of the ‘Deutsche Orchester Stiftung’ .
With this scholarship, we can finally realise a music education project we have long been dreaming of: engaging with children and young people in school concerts and then inviting them, together with their families and friends, to a free trio concert at the
Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
We are already very excited about this project!!
